The medial heel skive technique described by Kevin Kirby, DPM is a further measure to help reduce unwanted calcaneal eversion associated with excessive pronation.

This modification is extremely helpful for the control of excessive pronation associated with the “acquired adult flatfoot deformity” (AAFFD) secondary to Tibialis Posterior Tendon Dysfunction. The angle of the medial skive is based on the extent of calcaneal eversion. We have found that for every 2° of calcaneal eversion, a 10°angle of medial skive should be applied to the positive cast.

Example:

8°calcaneal eversion = 40°Kirby skive

Note: The Medial Skive Technique can be used in conjunction with the Adult Robert’s modification for enhanced rearfoot control.
