Metatarsal Head Cut-Outs

Whitney CMO Metatarsal cut-out

When precise off-loading of painful or pre-ulcerative areas is necessary, such may be noted on the prescription by circling the metatarsal number/s and noting the area of concern on the diagram

One of the features that makes the CMO  unique is its ability to allow for precise control of forefoot problems. The forepart of this device is not simply a modified top-cover extension but, rather, an integral part of the orthosis for enhanced realignment, protection, or off-loading as needed.

When precise off-loading of painful or pre-ulcerative areas is necessary, such may be noted on  the prescription by circling the metatarsal number/s and noting the area of concern on the diagram. Marking painful areas with a marking pen on the foot for transfer to the cast is also helpful to ensure optimal off-loading protection. Painful prominences or areas of discomfort may also be marked for protective accommodation such as shown for a prominent 5th metatarsal base.
